Money and the bank

#Cash and your account

Your character has two wallets, both shown in the top right corner of the screen under the minimap, each on its own plate.

  • Cash is in your pocket. You pay with it at a counter, hand it to people directly and put it into the trade window.
  • The account is at the Bank of Night City. Its number is your character's number: character #12 has account No. 12. Faction salaries, transfers, interest on your deposit and money from selling a home or a business go into the account.

A new character gets 5,000 €$ in cash and an empty account. If your character is knocked out, they keep their money and belongings.

#The bank card

You get a card at any branch of the bank, on the “Card” tab. Without one the ATMs, transfers and payments on the phone don't work, and at a counter you can pay only in cash.

WhatPrice
Your first card300 €$
A new card for a lost one500 €$
  • The card has 16 digits and your character's name. You pick its design: “Graphite”, “Neon” or “Chrome”. Before it's issued you accept the bank's terms of service.
  • The card is paid for in cash first; whatever is missing comes from your account.
  • Lost your card? Block it in the “Bank” app or at a branch. While it's blocked it pays nowhere, but transfers to its number still reach your account. You unblock it the same way.
  • A new card gets a new number, and the old number is closed for good.

A branch serves you without a card too: you can deposit and withdraw cash, send money, open a deposit and pay bills there.

#Branches and ATMs

The city has 4 branches of the Bank of Night City and 109 ATMs. Walk up to one and press E.

Tab at a branchWhat you can doAt an ATM

PaymentsPay fines and extend a hotel roomNo
  • An ATM takes only an active Bank of Night City card. Without one it asks you to get a card at a branch, and the GPS on your phone shows the nearest branch.
  • An ATM takes in and pays out up to 50,000 €$ at a time, and you can withdraw at most 200,000 €$ from the ATMs in 24 hours.
  • You can make at most 60 cash operations (deposits and withdrawals, at branches and ATMs together) in 24 hours. After that the game says “Today's limit of cash operations is reached”.
  • To find the branches, see Places on the map.

#Transfers

Money goes from account to account by the recipient's card number (16 digits) or their phone number (7 digits). You can send it at a branch, at an ATM and in the “Bank” app on your phone.

  1. Open the “Transfer” tab and pick which number to use: a card's or a phone's. In the app you can take the number from your contacts.
  2. Enter the number, the amount and a comment such as “For the rent”, then press “Continue”.
  3. The bank shows who gets the money, the fee, the total to be charged and what will be left on your account.
  4. Press “Confirm the transfer” within 60 seconds, or “Change” to fix something.
  • The fee is 1% of the amount, at least 5 €$ and at most 1,000 €$. The sender pays it on top of the transfer.
  • The money arrives instantly, even if the recipient is offline. If they're in the game, they get a notification with the amount and your comment.
  • A transfer can't be undone. Check the number twice.
  • The recipient sees your name in their statement only if you're acquainted. Otherwise they see just your account number.
  • You can't send money between your own characters.
  • A new character can send money only after 120 minutes of play. Receiving works right away.

To hand someone cash directly, use the G menu or the /pay command: see Trading and giving money.

Total sent in 24 hours1,000,000 €$50,000 €$
Transfers in 24 hours2510

An account counts as new while the character has played less than 10 hours. The “Transfer” tab shows how much you've already sent in the last 24 hours.

#The statement

  • The statement lists every transaction on your account by day: what it was, the amount and what was left on the account after it.
  • Filters: “All”, “Credits”, “Debits”, “Income”, “Purchases”, “Transfers”, “Fines” and “Bank” (the bank's own: cash in and out, the card, the deposit and its interest).
  • At the top you see how much came in and went out over the last 30 days.
  • Transactions come in pages of 30; older ones load with the button at the bottom.

#The savings deposit

You open a savings deposit at a branch on the “Savings” tab or in the “Bank” app. Money moves between the account and the deposit both ways with no fee.

  • The deposit holds up to 500,000 €$.
  • For each game day you spend in the city (3 hours of play) the deposit earns 0.4% of its lowest balance that day, at most 2,000 €$. The interest goes into your account.
  • Money you put on the deposit starts earning from the next game day.
  • Interest counts only time in the game: while you're not in the city or the screen says “You're away”, the deposit doesn't grow.

#Payments

The “Payments” tab at a branch and in the “Bank” app gathers your unpaid fines and your hotel rooms.

  • A fine is paid in full from the account.
  • You can extend a hotel room by as many days as you like, but you can pay at most 30 days ahead.
  • Payments here come from the account only: cash doesn't count.

#The “Bank” app

  • It shows your card, the money on your account, your cash and your deposit, the latest transactions and the nearest branch and ATM.
  • With an active card the app lets you send money, read the statement, top up the deposit and take money from it, pay fines and extend a hotel room.
  • Without a card the app shows only your money and the statement.
  • Tap the card number to see it in full; you can copy it.
  • If you lose your card, block it right in the app.

#If your account is frozen

If the bank says your account is frozen by the administration, no money leaves it: card payments, transfers, ATMs and the deposit don't work. Money still comes in, and the cash on you stays yours. If it's a mistake, file a report with F3.

#Where to check your money

  • In the top right corner of the screen.
  • In the “Bank” app on your phone.
  • With chat commands: /money shows your cash and account, /bank shows your account, deposit and card.
  • On the “Character” tab of the main window.
