#Who can get into a car
Passengers show in the car in their own seats: next to the driver and in the back. Other players see them get in and out, and move to another seat.
- A locked car opens only for its owner and people with a key.
- Anyone can start an unlocked car and drive off in it. So lock your car when you get out: L works within 12 m.
- A new car from the dealership or a car taken out of a garage always appears locked.
- To get out of a car that has almost stopped, give F a short press.
#Keys
- You can hand out up to 5 keys to each car.
- Only the owner gives out keys: in the car menu (G inside the car), go to the keys section and use “Give a key” on a player next to you (within 4 m) or sitting in the car, then confirm.
- A key lets you unlock and lock the car, drive it and use its trunk.
- Only the owner can hand out keys, park the car in a garage and call it with the phone.
- “Take back” takes a key away, and its holder gets a notification. You can give that player a key again after 10 seconds.
#Car menu
Press G while sitting in a car. Number keys 1-4 toggle the controls, 5 opens the trunk, the arrow keys and Enter pick buttons, and G closes the menu.
| What | Who can use it |
|---|---|
| Engine | The driver. The engine starts by itself when the driver gets in and shuts off when the last person gets out. With the engine off, the car won't move |
| Headlights: off, low beams, high beams | The driver |
| Hazard lights | The driver |
| Doors, trunk, hood, windows | The driver: any of them. A passenger: only their own door and window. Motorcycles have no doors or windows |
| Lock and unlock | The owner, key holders, a worker in a work vehicle, faction members in a service vehicle |
| Change seats | When the car is stopped and the seat is free. Only someone allowed to drive can take the wheel |
| Put a passenger out | The driver or the owner, when the car is stopped, with a confirmation. The owner can't be put out, and neither can a cuffed detainee an officer seated or one in a police car |
The menu also shows the plate, class, mileage, the car's condition and how full the trunk is.
It also shows how much fuel is in the tank. With an empty tank the engine won't start: how to fill up is on the Fuel and gas stations page.
#Trunk
Only personal cars have a trunk. Starter vehicles, work vehicles, service vehicles and test cars don't.

- You can't put your phone or documents, ammo, or a new character's starter clothes in the trunk.
- For their first 120 minutes of play, a new character can put things only in their own car's trunk, and meanwhile nobody else can take anything out of it, not even the police in a search.
- You can take out as much as your carry weight allows.
- On-duty police can search the trunk of a locked car and seize items if the owner is near (within 30 m of the car) or wanted. The owner gets a notification.
