Every car has a tank, and the server keeps track of the fuel in it. Cars run on CHOOH2 and burn a lot of it in the city: a full tank lasts a few dozen trips.
#Tank and fuel use
- The tank's size depends on the car's class; its fuel use on its power and mass.
- The faster you drive, the more fuel each kilometer takes. An idling engine burns a little fuel too.
- How much fuel is in the tank and how far it will take you shows on the Tachometer in any vehicle you sit in, and also in the car menu (G), in the garage and in the “Garage” app on your phone. A dealership's card shows the tank, the use and the range before you buy.

#When the fuel runs out
- At 15% left you get a “Low on fuel” warning, at 5% “Fuel on reserve”. The Tachometer shows the same.
- With an empty tank the engine dies and the car rolls to a stop without brakes. It starts again only once there's fuel in the tank.
- A jerry can or a mechanic will get you going.
- A car with an empty tank can't be called with the phone. If it runs dry on its way to the garage, it's towed.
#Gas stations
The city has 12 gas stations, all of them real stations from the game itself: 5 in Santo Domingo and 7 in the Badlands. Central Night City has none: not in Watson, Westbrook, City Center, Heywood, Pacifica or Dogtown. The nearest to the center is the Arroyo station: about a kilometer from Heywood, a kilometer and a half from City Center and Westbrook, and three from Watson. Check your tank before a long drive, or take a jerry can along.
Gas stations are on the map and in the GPS: the “Gas stations” category, and in a car also a “Nearest gas station” button. Hover over the icon to see the price a liter.

- Park right next to a pump and get out of the car.
- Walk up to the pump and press E: the pump's panel opens.
- Pick how much: 10, 20 or 30 liters, “Full tank”, or your own amount.
- Pick how to pay: cash or card, and press “Fill up”.
- The city's price is 4 €$ a liter. At a station a player owns, the owner sets the price: from 20% below the city's price to 30% above it. The panel always shows the price before you pay.
- Paying by card takes an active bank card.
- If a player-owned station runs out of fuel, its pumps stop until the owner restocks.
#Jerry cans
- You buy a jerry can at a pump: 60 €$ for the can itself plus 10 liters of fuel at that station's price.
- You can carry up to 2 jerry cans, each weighing 7 kg.
- Pour a can into the car you sit in or stand next to: “Pour into the tank” in the inventory (Tab). Whatever doesn't fit into the tank is spilt.
#A mechanic with fuel
- A mechanic on shift can bring fuel to a car with less than 15% left: walk up to it and offer to fill it.
- The car's driver or owner gets the offer and accepts it with E within 45 seconds.
- A mechanic's fill: 15 liters at the city's price plus 120 €$ for the call. The workshop keeps 20% of the call fee, the mechanic gets the rest, plus the job level bonus, but never more than the call fee itself.
- You pay in cash first, the rest from your bank card.
#Work and service vehicles
- Work vehicles fill up by themselves while they stand at their job's depot. If you fill one at a gas station, the company pays.
- Faction cars fill up at the base. At a gas station the city pays for the fuel of the police, the medics, City Hall and N54 News, the corporation pays for Arasaka's cars, while the gangs and the Aldecaldos pay for their own.
- The dealership fuels its test-drive cars.
#A gas station as a business
You can buy a gas station like any other business: in the “Business” app on your phone.

The small stations: Trailer Park gas station, Sunset Motel gas station and Autowerks gas station.
- An owned station sells only the fuel its owner has bought wholesale: at 70% of the city's price, from the business account into its tanks. While nobody owns a station, it sells at the city's price with no limit.
- The owner changes the price a liter under “Fuel and price”, at most once every 30 seconds.
- The takings go into the business account, and the day's sales show in the business's management screen.
- When a company, the city or the corporation pays for the fuel (work cars and faction cars), the station gets the city's price for it, without the owner's markup.
- The owner and their other characters fill up at their own station at the city's price. New characters pay the city's price, or the station's price if it's lower.
