In Night City, nobody has to know your name. Until you introduce yourself, other people see you as a “Stranger” with a number: above your head, in the chat, in the player list and in notifications.
#How to introduce yourself
- Walk up to the person and press G.
- In the “Acquaintance” section, press “Introduce yourself”.
- They get a notification about the new acquaintance with your name, and you get one saying they now know your name.
- Introductions are one-way: they've learned your name, but you don't know theirs yet. Let them introduce themselves back.
- An introduction is for good. If you change your name, the people who know you will see the new one.
- You can only introduce yourself by your character's real name. If you go by a nickname, say it in voice chat.
- The G menu shows whether the person already knows your name.
#Who sees names without an introduction
- Members of the same faction see each other's names in faction chat, on the radio and in the faction tab.
- Your ID (G, “Show your ID”) shows your name on the card, but it doesn't count as an introduction: above your head you stay a stranger.
#Character number
Every character has a number, like #12. Everyone can see it, and transfers, complaints and commands all work with it. The number stays the same when you change your name.
