Claire of the Afterlife is gathering racers again. The server has four tracks of her races, The Beast in Me, taken from the game itself. You can drive a track alone against the clock, or in a race of up to 8 racers with a buy-in: the prize pot is split by the places at the finish. Racing in the city's streets is illegal, while the Badlands track is legal.
#Tracks
| Track | Where it starts | Length | Checkpoints | Law |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “City Center” | Vista del Rey, Heywood | 5.6 km | 30 | Street race |
| “Santo Domingo” | Arroyo, Santo Domingo | 5.5 km | 25 | Street race |
| “Badlands” | Laguna Bend, Badlands | 8.1 km | 35 | Legal track |
| “The Big Race” | Charter Hill, Westbrook | 8.2 km | 33 | Street race |
- Every track runs from the start to the finish, with no laps. 63 % of the Badlands track is off road, as in the game.
- Each track's start is marked on the map: “The Beast in Me: Badlands” and so on. The phone's GPS has a section of its own for the starts, “Race tracks”. At a start press E, “Race start”: that track opens in your phone.
- At the Afterlife walk up to the bar and press E: the club's window has Claire's line, “Claire takes sign-ups for the races: tracks, buy-ins, records”, and an “Open «Races»” button.
- The phone's “Races” app itself works from anywhere in the city.
#Classes
| Class | Which vehicles |
|---|---|
| Bikes | Motorcycles |
| Compacts | Compact and economy cars |
| Sports cars | Sports and muscle cars |
| Hypercars | Hypercars |
| Any car | Any vehicle, motorcycles too |
- The car classes are those of the vehicle catalog. Every class races on any track.
- A driving school's car and a test drive's car don't race.
- Records are kept apart for each track and each class.
#The Races app
- The phone's “Races” app: the tracks with a map of the route, the length and the record, “Open races” and “My race”.
- A track's page has the “Leaderboard”, the “Week's leader”, the “Last week's champion” and “Your best”, and the “Make a race” and “Time trial” buttons.
- The week starts on Monday at 00:00 Moscow time. The “Week's leader” is the best time this week. The “Last week's champion” gets a title only, no prize.
#Time trial
Alone and with no buy-in: your time goes on the leaderboard.
- On a track's page pick a class and press “Time trial”.
- “TO THE START”: within 2 minutes drive up to the start in a vehicle of that class, get behind the wheel, stop behind the start line.
- A 5 second countdown, and you're off. Cross the start line before the countdown ends and it's a false start: 5 seconds are added to your time.
- Drive the checkpoints in order: rings over the road, the nearest with its number and distance. A missed checkpoint has to be driven through: until it is, the next ones don't count.
- “FINISH”: your time goes on the leaderboard.
Get out of the car and you see “BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL”: you have 15 seconds for it, or you're out of the race.
#Racing against others
- On a track's page press “Make a race” and pick the class, a buy-in from 0 to 1,000,000 €$ and the number of racers from 2 to 8. In the “Check the buy-in” window the “Pay the buy-in” button becomes active after 3 seconds.
- The race shows up for everyone in “Open races”. To take part, press “Join” and pay the same buy-in.
- The host, the one who made the race, presses “Start the race” once at least 2 racers are in. A race not started within 15 minutes is called off, and the buy-ins come back.
- “TO THE START”: each racer has a place of their own on the starting grid, “Your place on the grid: N”. You have 2 minutes to take it: at the wheel of a vehicle of the right class, behind the start line, standing still.
- Once everyone is in place, a 5 second countdown and the start. From there it's all as in a time trial.
- The finish: your place and time. After the first racer finishes, the rest have 90 seconds, and the whole race lasts 20 minutes at most.
- Whoever doesn't reach the start within 2 minutes is out, with their buy-in back. If fewer than 2 racers are left at the start, the race is called off.
- If the host leaves the race, the next racer becomes the host.
- A racer is out if they drop out themselves (“Drop out of the race”), stay out of the car for more than 15 seconds, wreck the car, pass out or fall into the police's hands. Their buy-in stays in the pot.
- You can't race on duty (“Not on duty: end your duty first”), during a job's shift, on a driving test or a test drive, indoors or in handcuffs.
#Buy-ins and the pot
- The buy-in is taken from your bank account first, the rest in cash. Winnings and returned buy-ins come into your bank account.
- Leave the race before the start and your buy-in comes back. After the start it's at stake.
- 5 % of the pot goes to the Afterlife. If the club has an owner, it's their business's income (“Race fee”), and if not, the money goes into City Hall's treasury.
- The rest is split by the places at the finish. The shares depend on how many racers came to the start:
| At the start | 1st place | 2nd place | 3rd place | 4th place |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 100 % | |||
| 3 | 70 % | 30 % | ||
| 4 | 60 % | 30 % | 10 % | |
| 5 | 55 % | 30 % | 15 % | |
| 6 | 50 % | 30 % | 20 % | |
| 7 | 50 % | 25 % | 15 % | 10 % |
| 8 | 45 % | 25 % | 18 % | 12 % |
- If fewer racers reach the finish than there are paid places, their shares are split among the finishers in the same proportion. For example, 4 came to the start and 2 finished: the first gets two thirds, the second one third.
- If nobody reaches the finish, every buy-in comes back.
- Buy-ins count toward the casino's limits. They go into the daily loss limit, and while the casino's games are closed to you (a pause after a big loss, access you closed to yourself, a new character's first hours), you can't pay a buy-in. How much more you can pay in today shows when you make a race: “Buy-ins today: up to N more (the casino's limits count them)”. Free races are always open. More on the Ho-Oh casino and dice page.
#Police
- Races on the city tracks are illegal. When such a race starts, a time trial too, every officer on duty gets a “Street race” call in the 911 list with the track and the district, and its mark follows the race's leader.
- The police have a quick fine, “Street racing”: 30,000 €$. Fines are on the Police and the law page.
- The Badlands track is legal: the police don't learn of a race there.
