Every term is served in one place: Night City Prison in Arroyo. It's a walled yard with four basketball courts, tables with benches and trees in planters, with guard towers over the walls. 6 NCPD officers stand on the towers and 4 more in the yard, and the prison's gate has the police icon on the map.
#Who goes there
- The police. An officer with the Arrest permission sends a cuffed person to prison for up to 60 minutes, with a reason. It's done at any of the three NCPD precincts or at the prison's gate: the prisoner is in the yard at once. More on the Police and the law page.
- The administration. A punishment the administration gives (players call it “demorgan”) is served there too, under the same rules.
- In prison, the cuffs come off and your wanted level is reset.
#The term's card
At the top of the screen is a “NIGHT CITY PRISON” card:
- “LEFT” and a big clock;
- the term's bar: how much is served, how much tasks have cut and how much is left, and under it “Served ... · cut by tasks ... · term ...”;
- “The term runs” or a yellow “The term stands: you're inactive”;
- the reason and who sent you there: “Reason: ...”, “Sent by: ...”;
- the tasks' line: “Time on tasks counts double · cut 4:00 of 15:00”, where the second number is how much can be cut in all (half the term). Once that's reached: “The tasks cut all they may: now they count as activity”.
#When the term runs
- Only in the game. While you're out of the game, the term stands. Next time you join, you're back in prison: “Back in prison: 12 min left”.
- Only while you do something. If you don't move, look around, talk or write in the chat for 2 minutes, the term stops, and the card turns yellow: “The term stands: you're inactive”. One step or word starts it again.
#Tasks
Tasks help you get out sooner and count as activity.
| Task | Where |
|---|---|
| “Clear the tables” | The tables with benches in the yard |
| “Water the trees” | The trees in planters |
| “Sweep the court” | The basketball courts |
- A task comes by itself: a “TASK” card at the bottom left and a magenta mark over the spot with the distance to it, at least 25 m from you.
- Walk to the mark and press E: the work takes 5 seconds, and you can't step away meanwhile (“Stay at the mark: 5 s”).
- “Task done: the term is 0:42 shorter”: the next task shows up somewhere else in the yard.
- Time on tasks counts double. When a task is done, the term is cut once more by as long as it ran since that task showed up. The task's card shows this counter all along: “TASK · −0:42 off the term”. One task cuts at most 2 minutes off the term.
- No more than half the term. Whoever works without a break gets out about twice as fast, but never sooner: a 30-minute term is cut by 15 minutes at most. Once that's reached, tasks count only as activity: “TASK · for activity”.
- This is the same for a term from the police and for a punishment from the administration.
- If you don't do a task within 3 minutes, another one takes its place, and its counter starts from zero.
- If a task cuts the term to its end, you're out at once.
#What's not allowed in prison
- Leaving the yard: whoever ends up outside its walls is back inside at once (“You can't leave the prison yard”).
- Drawing weapons and fighting, using places, the bank or your home, calling your car, working, calling the police or the medics, going on duty or talking on the radio. You can still pay fines.
- Hurting a prisoner: shots and blows at them don't count.
- If you're knocked out anyway, you come to in the prison yard.
#How you get out
- When your time is up, you walk out at the prison's gate.
- An officer with the Arrest permission can let you out early, at a precinct or at the prison, but only those the police put there. A punishment from the administration is lifted only by the administration.
