Trading and giving money

There are four ways to pass something to another character. All of them need your consent, and all but the bank transfer work only up close: nobody can take your things or money unless you act.

MethodWhat it passesDistance

Hand over cashCashUp to 5 m
Bank transferMoney from account to account by a card or phone numberFrom anywhere: at a branch, an ATM or in the “Bank” app

#The trade window

  1. Walk up to a player, press G and choose “Offer a trade”.
  2. They have 30 seconds to answer with G.
  3. Each of you puts items from your pockets and cash on the table. Things you're wearing and money in your account can't go on it.
  4. You both press “Ready”. Any change on the table takes “Ready” off for both of you.
  5. Once you're both ready, you get 3 seconds to check everything once more, and then each of you presses “Confirm”. The whole trade happens at once.
  • Up to 12 kinds of items on each side.
  • Before the trade, the server checks both players' weight and item limits: if something won't fit, the trade doesn't go through.
  • The trade is called off if someone presses Esc or leaves the game, you move more than 7 m apart, or someone is knocked out, cuffed, jailed or picked up and carried.
  • If the player declined or didn't answer, you can offer them a trade again after 10 seconds.

#Giving an item

In your inventory (Tab), right-click an item and choose to give it to the nearest player. The recipient needs enough room and enough carrying weight left.

#Handing over cash

  • Through the G menu: “Hand over cash” and the amount.
  • With a command like /pay #12 500: the player's number and the amount. If you're acquainted, you can type their name instead of the number.

The recipient gets a notification of who gave them how much.

You can also send money from account to account from afar: how it works, the limits and the fee are on the Money and the bank page.

#What you can't give

  • Personal items: your phone and documents, including the gun license.
  • Ammo: it can't be given, thrown away or put into storage. Everyone buys their own ammo.
  • A new character's money and things: for the first 120 minutes of play, a new character can't send money (by transfer, by hand or in a trade) or hand things on: not give them, trade them, throw them away, or put them in someone else's wardrobe, someone else's trunk or a faction stash. The game says “A new character can't hand things on yet: N min more of play”. Their own things can go into their own wardrobe or their own car's trunk, except the starter clothes. They can't pay money into a faction treasury or a business account either, and the fines, treatment, ads and taxi rides they pay for are paid to the city: no treasury and no other player gets that money. Receiving money and things works right away. Time while you're away from the keyboard doesn't count toward those minutes.
