#How to talk
Hold N while you talk. Players near you hear you, and your voice fades with distance: at 1.5 m you're heard at full volume, at the edge of the range not at all.
X cycles through the ranges:
| Mode | Range |
|---|---|
| Talk (default) | 18 m |
| Shout | 42 m |
| Whisper | 4 m |
- Your voice only carries within one space: someone indoors can't be heard out on the street.
- While you're typing in the chat, N doesn't turn on your mic.
- You can't talk while unconscious.
#Indicators
- Above the “Biomonitor” panel: a mic icon with “You are heard”, your volume level and the current range. When you press X, the mode is shown larger.
- While you're unconscious it says “Nobody hears you while you're down” in red, and under an admin's voice ban, “Your voice is banned”.
- A mic icon appears next to other players' names above their heads while they're talking.
#Faction radio
Hold B to talk on the radio.
- The radio works for faction members on duty, if their rank has the radio permission. Gangs have no duty: their radio works the whole time they're in the city. If you don't have a radio, B stays a normal game key.
- Every member of your faction on duty hears you, wherever they are, with a radio effect on your voice.
- People standing next to you hear your normal voice: the radio doesn't make the conversation private.
- The screen shows who is talking on the radio right now.
#Voice on the phone
During a call, talk the same way, holding N. The other person hears you at any distance, and people near you hear you as usual. The “Mute” button in a call mutes your voice completely.
