You can set the Neonesis keys the way you like: F2, the “Settings” tab, the “Controls” card. Every key hint in the interface (in windows, on screen and in quests) shows the key that's bound right now. Your keys are kept on this PC: on another computer you'll start with the defaults.
#How to change a key
The card sorts the actions into groups: “Menus”, “Talking”, “Actions” and “Vehicles”.
- Click an action's row: the key turns into “Press a key”.
- Press the new key. The middle and side mouse buttons work too, and so do combinations with Ctrl, Shift or Alt.
- That's it: the new key works right away, there's nothing to save.
- Esc cancels, and the old key stays.
- Backspace clears the key and leaves the action without one. The main menu, inventory, reports, phone and interact can't be left without a key.
- Voice chat and the faction radio work while the key is held down, so they take a single key, not a combination.
- Hover over a row to see what the action does and which key it has by default.
- While Ctrl or Alt is held down, a key bound without it doesn't fire: Ctrl+G isn't G.
#If the key is already taken
- Another action already uses it. You'll be offered “Swap them” (the two actions trade keys) or “Keep the old one”. Actions that work in different places can share a key: G opens the action menu on foot and the car menu in a car.
- The game itself needs it. That's walking on W A S D, jumping on Space, sprinting on Shift, Ctrl and C, F, reloading on R, weapons on 1 and 2, the map on M and the middle mouse button. You'll be warned that the game won't get that key any more and offered “Bind anyway” or “Keep the old one”. A key like that keeps a yellow warning mark.
#What can't be changed
- Esc: it closes windows and cancels.
- Backspace: it clears a key in the “Controls” card.
- The left and right mouse buttons: attack and aim in the game, clicks in the interface.
- The keys inside windows and the chat line.
- The game's own keys (walking, jumping, F, R and so on) are changed in the game's settings. Our hints follow them.
#Reset all
The “Reset all” button at the bottom of the card puts every key back to its default. Press it twice: after the first press it asks you to confirm.

#On-screen key hints
A strip of hints can show low in the middle of the screen: the main keys for what you're doing right now.
| Where you are | What the hints show |
|---|---|
| On foot | Action menu, phone, inventory, voice, chat, settings |
| In a car | Car menu, car lock, get out, phone, voice |
| In a window | Under the window: close (Esc), main menu, settings, inventory, reports |
- For a new character's first 3 hours of play the hints are on by themselves, then they switch off.
- You can turn them on or off in the “Controls” card with the “Key hints over the game” switch. If you turn them on or off yourself, your choice stays.
- The hints always show the keys that are bound right now: ours and the game's own.
