Until you have a car of your own, you rent one. There's a rental stand by each of the five spawn points: a mechanic or a road worker behind it, and a pad on the road next to it where your vehicle is brought.

You pay in cash or by bank card, whichever you pick in the rental window. The server has as many vehicles as you like, but each player has only one rental, shared by all the characters of the account.
#How to rent
- Walk up to the stand, look at the clerk and press E: the “Vehicle rental” window opens with the motorcycle's and the car's cards.
- Pick a vehicle and press “Rent”: the button shows the price.
- The vehicle waits on the pad by the stand, its plate starts with RENT. Take the wheel.
You can only rent on foot, conscious and out of handcuffs. Only you take the wheel, and while you drive, others can ride as passengers. For everyone else it's locked.
#Rental time
- The timer shows above the “Biomonitor” panel while you sit in your rented vehicle, and in your phone, in the “Garage” app.
- Warnings arrive 10 minutes and 1 minute before the end.
- Extend at any stand (cash or card) or in your phone, in “Garage” (card only). You can pay for at most 4 hours ahead. Once the time is up it can't be extended: take out a new rental.
- Return it early at any rental stand, with any character of the account. The time left isn't paid back.
When the time is up and nobody is in the vehicle, it's taken away at once. If you're at the wheel, you have 60 seconds to stop and get out. Then the engine dies, the car brakes, and it's taken away as soon as it stands still. Nobody is thrown out of a moving car.
#If the vehicle is left without you
- If you leave the game or walk away, the vehicle stays where you left it for 15 minutes, and then it's driven off to the rental's lot. The rental's clock keeps running all this time.
- While there's time left, the vehicle can be brought out to any stand: the “Bring it here” button in the rental window.
- A rental survives a server restart: the vehicle waits on the rental's lot.
#A crash
If the rented vehicle is wrecked or burnt out, the rental ends with no money back. You can take a new one after 5 minutes.
#How a rental differs from your own car
A rented vehicle belongs to nobody: it can't be locked, parked in a garage, called with the phone, sold or given away, and it has no keys or trunk. It doesn't count toward your limit of 5 cars.
Once you've saved up for a car of your own, visit a dealership: the cheapest model costs 6,500 €$.
