Driver's licenses are issued by the Delamain Driving School in Vista del Rey, by the company's garage. First the theory, then a drive through the city in the school's car, and only once everything is passed, the payment: 1,500 €$. On the map the driving school is marked with a pale pink steering wheel, and the phone's GPS has a “Driving school” category.

#What a license is for
- Buying at a dealership. Dealerships sell cars and motorcycles only with a license in your inventory, and there's no test drive without one either: see Dealerships and test drives.
- Renting a car. Without a license the rental gives you only the motorcycle, and the Makigai MaiMai P126 only with one: see Vehicle rental.
- Driving without a license means a fine. The police can check a driver's license and fine them for driving without one: usually 2,000 €$, more than the license itself. The rental's motorcycle and the driving school's car during the test need no license.
The license is your character's document. It's in your inventory, and you can't throw it away, give it away or sell it.
#The road rules test
- Walk up to the instructor at the garage's door, look at him and press E: the driving school's window opens with the test's rules.
- Press “Start the test”. The questions come one at a time, the answers in a new order each time.
- Right after the test you see how many answers were right and how many were needed, and if you failed, when you can try again. The right answers aren't shown.

Walking away from the counter in the middle of the test counts as a fail. The questions are about the city's traffic rules: which side to drive on, speed, traffic lights, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, the police, crashes.
#The drive
After the theory, “Start the drive” appears in the driving school's window. The school's car, “Delamain no. 21”, waits on the street in front of the garage, and you're put at its wheel at once.
- The route: 10 checkpoints through the streets by the driving school. The next checkpoint shows on the map and over the road, and the GPS leads to it. The last one is at the school's door.
- The time: 5 minutes for the whole route.
- Crashes: if the car loses more than 25% of its health, the drive fails.
- Stay in the car: if you're out of the car for more than 15 seconds, the drive fails.
- At the top of the screen, the “Driving exam” card shows the checkpoint's number, the time left and the damage.
When the drive is over, passed or not, the car is taken away and you're put back at the driving school. If you failed: the next drive in 10 minutes, and you don't retake the theory while it's still valid.
You can't start the drive on a job shift, in handcuffs, while wanted, in a car, at home or during a test drive.
#The payment
Once everything is passed, the payment appears in the driving school's window: 1,500 €$ in cash or by card. The license goes straight into your inventory.
#How to show your license
With /showlic player (a number or the name of someone you know, within 5 m) or in the G menu at a player: “Show your licences”. The card shows your driver's license and gun license, if you have them. A police officer on duty can check the documents of a detainee in handcuffs: “Check their licences”.
#Roadside checks
A police officer on duty can check the license of the driver of a car that's standing still: walk up to the window and pick “Driver's papers” in the G menu at the driver or at the car's body. If the car is moving, it has to stop first. The driver gets “... checks your documents”, and the officer sees the “NCPD · DOCUMENTS CHECK” card:

The same G menu at the car's body has “Fine the driver”, and on the fine card one click fills in the amount and the reason “Driving without a licence”.
#If your license was taken away
A police officer on duty can take the driver's license away from a detainee in handcuffs: “Confiscate” in the G menu or the /revokelic command, always with a reason. The license disappears from the inventory at once, and both get a notice with the reason.
The only way back is from scratch: the theory, the drive and the 1,500 €$ fee, no sooner than 15 minutes later. The driving school's window shows “Taken away by the police”, the date and the reason.
